This 16 hour course (eight 2-hour sessions held on Mondays beginning on March 3rd) gives an overview of the information covered by the LEED-AP exam. The focus will be on the LEED New Construction version 2.2 rating system (LEED-NC v2.2). Participants will gain an understanding of the LEED process, the different LEED-NC credit categories, referenced resources and calculations associated with each credit. Topics covered will include: -LEED Rating System Overview -Sustainable Sites -Energy and Atmosphere -Materials and Resources -Indoor Environment Quality -Water Use Reduction -Innovation In Design -LEED Administration -LEED-AP Process
Unlike one-day LEED Intro classes, we will be able to go into more depth on the individual credits, including sample questions and a case study exercise. The weekly format will include homework and quizzes to provide feedback and help guide learning. Each session will consist of: -Review/Quiz of Previous Session's Topic -Primary Session Topic -Lesson Related Group Exercises -Explanation of Take-Home Materials
Participants will need to purchase a copy of the LEED for New Construction Reference Guide v2.2 from the United States Green Building Council (http://www.usgbc.org) or can use a copy at NEXUS Green Building Resource Center (http://www.nexusboston.com).
AIA credit is offered for this training. Sixteen credits will be awarded for attending all eight 2-hour sessions.
This training will be led by Technical Assistance staff at The Green Roundtable who have extensive experience teaching the material and implementing it in green building and LEED projects.
FAQ's
Q: Should I register for this training?
A: This training is intended for anyone who wants assistance preparing for the LEED Accredited Professional (AP) New Construction (NC) exam. It will provide an interactive method to learning the material that is required to pass the LEED AP exam.
Q: Will I need to do anything besides participate in the training to pass the LEED AP exam?
A: Study time outside class is essential. How much will depend on the individual. The training will provide guidance and structure, tips and techniques, sample questions and homework exercises to help you prepare. It will also be necessary to study the entire LEED Reference Guide because that is the material tested on the exam. You can access more Green Roundtable information on "Becoming a LEED AP" at http://www.nexusboston.com/action/information_resources/leed_accreditation.html .
Q: Do I need to purchase the LEED-NC Reference Guide to participate in the training?
A: Not necessarily, but we highly recommend it. We do have digital copies of the book on our Cyberlounge computers, which you can access during NEXUS open hours, but we cannot guarantee that a machine will be available when you want it. If you purchase the LEED Reference Guide from the USGBC you will receive both a (non-printable) digital copy and a hard copy of the book.
Q: What written material is included in the course?
A: We provide handouts on each presentation, homework assignments and supplementary material.
Q: What other resources does The Green Roundtable offer to people that want to become LEED AP's?
A: The Green Roundtable offers three monthly events to help you become a LEED AP or implement the ratings system if you have recently become a LEED AP. They are the Boston LEED Users Group event (the last Tuesday of the month), the Lunch and LEED event (the 2nd of every month or the following Monday if on a weekend), and the LEED AP Study Group meeting (last Thursday evening of the month). All of these events can be accessed through the NEXUS Events Calendar (http://www.nexusboston.com/space/events). These events are all free. For companies and organizations that have a large group of people who want to become LEED AP, we offer in-house trainings. These are led by LEED Accredited Technical Assistance staff from The Green Roundtable who have experience both teaching the material and implementing LEED projects. If you are interested in an in-house training, contact Tova Greenberg, manager of Technical Assistance staff, at tova@greenroundtable.org.
Q: After participating in the training, when should I take the LEED AP exam?
A: You should allow sufficient time after the last session to review the material and prepare for the LEED AP exam. Depending on your familiarity with LEED, your test-taking skills, and the amount of time you spend studying between classes, this could take as few as a couple of weeks. The last two training sessions will include review exercises on the material covered in the previous six weeks, and this should help facilitate the study process.
